One of the statements made by John Wesley, co-founder of the Methodist movement along with his brother Charles, resonates with me as the lead pastor of this church. When the bishop of Bristol objected to the time Wesley was spending in ministry outside of his parish, Wesley’s response was “The world is my parish.” While committed to caring for the people of my appointed church, I am also committed to the people outside of these walls. Toward that end, I’m committed to serving the community out in the community as well as within my church. The world is my parish as well.
Our vocation is not simply to be, but to work together with God in the creation of our own life, our own identity, our own destiny. … To work out our identity in God.
