Who We Are

When the church is being the church, lives are being transformed.

Mexico United Methodist Church exists to see lives transformed through God’s grace.  This happens as we connect with God, each other, our community and our world. We learn about our faith as we gather as a church family.  Lives are transformed as we become disciples.  As we go out to serve, love and practice our faith, lives are transformed in many ways and directions.  Committed to supporting a vibrant community, we are located close to a block from the downtown square.

Mission

The making of new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  – Matthew 28:16-20

Vision

To be a community of Christ-followers that is

  • Connecting Christ and the community around us,
  • Growing as disciples of Christ and as a community of faith, and
  • Serving the needs of our community and the world.

Beliefs

Molding believers, influencing the world

Our preaching and teaching is grounded in scripture, informed by Christian tradition, enlivened in personal experience, and tested by reason.  As United Methodists, we have an obligation to bear a faithful Christian witness to Jesus Christ, the living reality at the center of the Church’s life and witness.  We believe in a God of grace.  God loves us unconditionally.  There is nothing we have done or can do to earn that love, and nothing will ever separate us from it.  God’s grace was revealed fully in Jesus Christ, who lived, died and was raised from the dead.  His life, death and resurrection set us free from sin and empowers us to love as God loves.  Jesus is present to all of God’s children through the power of the Holy Spirit.  The church is the Body of Christ in the world, meant to do as Jesus did by living into the Great Commission and the Great Commandment.

Senior Pastor

One of the statements made by John Wesley, co-founder of the Methodist movement along with his brother Charles, resonates with me as the lead pastor of this church. When the bishop of Bristol objected to the time Wesley was spending in ministry outside of his parish, Wesley’s response was “The world is my parish.” While committed to caring for the people of my appointed church, I am also committed to the people outside of these walls. Toward that end, I’m committed to serving the community out in the community as well as within my church. The world is my parish as well.
